Why did I decide on a career in dentistry?

I chose dentistry because my older sister, Janet, is also a dentist. When she was in dental school, I would flip through her textbooks and tinker with her dental tools. It sparked an interest that stayed with me ever since.

Favourite dental procedure?

I love front tooth implants-they’re the hardest to get right, but the most rewarding when they look and feel like the real thing.

Hobbies and Interests?

Skiing, Hiking, cycling, gardening, cooking-especially seafood dishes.

Tell us something people don’t know about you?

I grew up in a small town in rural Saskatchewan where my parents ran a small Chinese restaurant, and I spent much of my childhood helping out after school and on weekends.

Homemade linguini vongole with lots of fresh local manila clams!

My first job was as a flower arrangement specialist.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

When I was eight , I had a dental injury to my front tooth that left a big impact -literally and emotionally. But thanks to a kind, skilled, dentist, I got my smile and confidence back. That experience struck me, and I knew I wanted to do the same for others one day.

Favourite Dental Procedure?

I enjoy restorative procedures. There’s something incredibly satisfying about restoring a tooth to its full function and beauty, helping patients regain their confidence and comfort.

Hobbies and Interests?

I’m happiest when I’m spending time with my kids- playing, laughing, and learning from there fresh perspectives.

Tell us something people don’t know about you?

I have a passion for roller coasters and have ridden some of the tallest and fastest in the world.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup- simple, cozy and perfect on a rainy day!

At 16, I worked for a local gelato shop spending my summers scooping ice cream with my cousin and other kids our age.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

From a young age, I knew I wanted to become a dentist. I always had positive experiences at the dental office, which left a lasting impression. As I got older and explored the profession more seriously, I was drawn to the unique blend of science, art, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on peoples’ lives through confident, healthy smiles.

Favourite Dental Procedure?

I particularly enjoy performing fillings, root canals, and crowns- procedures that not only restore function but also bring immediate relief and transformation to patients.

Hobbies and Interests?

In the summer, I love paddle boarding and being out on the water. I’m also a big fan of squash, tennis, yoga, and hiking. I love to spend time with my family.

I love watching trashy reality shows like The Bachelor and Selling Sunset.

Favourite Food?

It’s hard to choose just one! I’m a big fan of Italian cuisine- Pasta and Pizza are always at the top of the list. And I also really love burgers.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

I was always drawn to the medical field as I like to help people. I fell into dentistry and have not looked back since.

Root canals, wisdom tooth, implant surgeries because of the intricacies and uniqueness of each case.

Hobbies and Interests?

Cooking has always  been something I have enjoyed. It gives you lots of creative freedom to make it as simple or as complicated as you’d like.

I don’t know how to swim, but I still enjoy scuba diving. You don’t need to know how to swim to scuba dive- the two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

The dental field decided on me. I started off as a dental receptionist and started to help in the back office, and just loved it!, Then I took the CDA course and never looked back!

I love to snowboard, putter in the garden, and create a delicious meal for my family.

I originally wanted to be a CDA, but quickly realized that I don’t like the sight of blood. I became a receptionist instead, I find that helping people really rewarding.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

I always wanted to be in the medical field, but realized I might be a bit too sensitive. I noticed an interest when I took my daughter to her first visit to a dentist in Canada, the receptionist was the person who helped me understand how to navigate the process and the procedure. It made me think I could still help people and benefit them, but in a different way.

Definitely hygiene, it helps prevent the majority of dental procedures, if we follow it.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

After 9 years being a stay at home mom, I wanted to reinvent myself and expand may horizons. I wanted to do something related to healthcare so I could be helpful to my community.

Cooking and baking…mostly eating the final products. . Also crafts like crocheting but there’s never time with 2 kids.

I’ve always loved helping people! I wanted a career where I can make a real difference. What really drew me to dentistry is how it mixes science and hands on work. It’s the perfect balance for me! I enjoy problem solving, working with my hands and connecting with people and dentistry brings all of that together !

I have always been drawn to healthcare. The combination of hands-on skills and patient care was something that drove me closer to a career that allowed me to play a role in helping people feel confident with their health.

When I was younger and I got braces. I found the whole process exciting and interesting.
After my braces were removed, I was able to confidently laugh through the happy moments in life and removed that conscious effort of covering my mouth every time I laughed or smiled.
From that moment on I knew I wanted to be apart of that team that believes that every individual deserves to immerse in the happy moments in life with a beautiful smile.

Junior receptionist and floater here at Kensington Square Dental when it was at its original site. I helped with everything from accounts receivable, working with insurances, sterilization, assisting, confirming and booking appointments, and even babysitting the kids who are now adults still coming to Kensington.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

I wanted to work in health care to help people. I also faint at the sight of vials of blood. I love working with my hands and I like dirty teeth. Dental hygiene was the perfect fit.

Favorite Dental Procedure?

Removing that hard to reach piece of calculus and seeing the positive improvement it made to my patients gums.

Hobbies and Interests?

Traveling, learning about new technology, current events, finance, cooking, photography, vacuuming, and working out at Orange Theory Fitness.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

I was terrified of getting anesthetic for fillings, but at 10 years old, my family dentist allowed me to assist for my sister and mom’s cleanings and fillings. I thought it was fun to be a part of their experience.

Favorite Dental Procedure?

Treating patients who haven’t had a cleaning for over 5 years. It’s so rewarding for the patient to see and feel the difference.

Hobbies and Interests?

New found love for globe trotting, and camping with the family.

Tell us something people don’t know about you?

I have hiked the West Coast Trail three times, and each time we cut the time spent hiking by one day. I hope to hike this trail at least one more time!

Favorite Food?

My favorite cuisine is Vietnamese, but I have a serious sweet tooth for anything with dark chocolate!

First job I ever had?

My first job was in a local bakery “The Bread and Buns Factory” during high school. It was a great experience; working with friends, learning new skills and making killer sandwiches with free rein of the deli counter. I miss putting out the piping hot bread in the morning.

Why did you decide on a Dental Field?

I decided to become a certified dental assistant straight out of high school (before switching to hygiene). The influence came from an Aunt and Uncle. He was a dentist and she his CDA. They lived on Vancouver Island, so our family dentist was a local friend he had recommended, Dr Regan. I always felt comfortable going to the dentist because of that. He was kind, gentle and did great work – as I aspire to do.

Favorite Dental Procedure?

Now as a hygienist is probably taking photos with our intra—oral cameras of before and after a cleaning. It’s a great thing to be able to show a person the areas of interest in real time. I feel it helps with trust, education and inspiration.

Hobbies and Interests?

A few of my hobbies are gardening, (I love collecting dahlias,) hiking with my Boston terrier Dixie, and forcing myself to the gym, where I enjoy weight lifting/functional fitness.
